Description
Innovation, technique, passion and attention to detail: these are the founding principles which have guided Athena technicians in the development of the new Ø 88 forged pistons. The premium 350cc MX and enduro applications complement KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas.
Available in three selections, these pistons are exceptional and have astounding performance results when you are ready to replace the original piston. Athena specialists produced these pistons as the only spare part for models spanning from 2014 to 2022, thus covering two OEM codes. Designed and tested from start to finish by the Athena R&D team, featuring a complete Italian design with outstanding mechanical properties.
Manufactured using the forging process applied to high-quality alloys, products are tested in extreme conditions both on static and dynamic benches. Experienced riders go through rigorous test and confirm their astounding results even in official races.
To enhance their resistance and anti-seizing characteristics, Athena pistons have a skirt coating that reduces friction, a pin with an exclusive hardening treatment, and latest generation rings that are made in Japan.
The pistons can be installed without any crankcase machining and without replacing original engine components.
ITALIAN ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
Implementing 2D and 3D studies of the sizes and thicknesses of the original pistons, the Athena R&D department has optimized the geometries and profiles of the crown and the skirt. As a result, the weight is significantly reduced and perfected compared to that of the OEM, despite the products remaining extremely reliable.
The safety and functionality of the three selections has been confirmed after several hours of extreme testing on the static and dynamic benches prior to production, as well as on-track testing.
SUPERIOR ENGINEERING
After thorough prototyping and quality tests, the Athena technicians have produced pistons that ensure heightened performance, while retaining the same integrity and durability as the original spare part, with no need to make any additional modifications to the bike or replace any other engine components.
The pistons are produced using latest-generation CNC numerical control machines that guarantee highprecision machining and perfectly smooth profiles for a perfect flame propagation.
CAREFULLY SELECTED HIGH-PERFORMANCE MATERIALS
Thoroughly tested by experienced riders in official MX races, the pistons withstand extreme temperatures and tension, all due to their materials and the treatments they endure.
The skirt incorporates a self-lubricating, anti-seize molybdenum disulfide coating, applied with screen printing to lessen friction.
The rings are produced in Japan using anti-wear treatments and materials, while the steel alloy pin offers excellent resistance to chemical and mechanical abrasion thanks to its exclusive “Diamond-Like Carbon” coating (DLC), which guarantees substantial rigidity and tolerance.
